Soy-Braised Tofu

  1. Slice the tofu into rectangles about ½ inch thick. Pat dry with paper towels — this helps it brown.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Pan-fry the tofu slices for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce: mix soy sauce, gochugaru, garlic, sugar, sesame oil, and ¼ cup water in a bowl.
  4. Return the fried tofu to the pan. Pour the sauce over it. Simmer on medium-low for 5 minutes, spooning sauce over the tofu occasionally, until the sauce reduces.
  5. Sprinkle with green onion and sesame seeds. Serve as a side dish with rice.
